This amazing work of art is carved from the matrix rock in which some Opal is found, called Boulder Opal. It has a small Opal deposit below the back of the tail, behind the rear legs of the lizard. There is also a vein of Opal running up the right side of the carving, through the lizard's right front hand.
The attention to detail in this carving is spectacular, utilizing the natural colorations of the rock to bring out the look of a lizard sitting on a rock in the sun.
